Why did you start ro/an?
We started ro/an because we saw the need for stylish, socially and environmentally sustainable activewear that is accessible and honestly priced. Our products are designed, but not limited to yoga. We believe in yoga’s contribution to our mental wellbeing, and we love the message of contentment and stillness, rather than aspiring for perfect.
What can I do in my ro/an's ?
Anything! We wanted to create a product that you could use for yoga, hiking or even swimming. With built-in sweat wicking, UV protection and chlorine resistance you can do just that. The bottoms have a high waisted sculpting fit, featuring a securing elastic so you can keep doing your thing while looking good without any worries. The bras are designed for low to medium impact activities. We hope you love these shapes as much as we do: we designed simple pieces for your everyday wardrobe that make you feel good when you move.
Where are you based?
We are based in Hong Kong and London and our products are made in Vietnam.
Social and Environmental Sustainability
We chose two key fabrics to feature in our collections. Both fabrics are certified by the Global Recycled Standard and have the 100-Standard OEKO-TEX certification. Our mill is a signee of the Zero Discharge Hazardous Chemicals Compliance Acknowledgement. Our core collection is made of polyester created from recycled plastic bottles and our shine collection is made of reclaimed nylon created from pre-consumer industrial waste.
Our production is in Vietnam just outside Ho Chi Minh city. It is a small family run factory and all staff are paid a living wage and have health & social insurance & maternity leave. The factory provides safe working conditions for staff. The staff are paid on time and for overtime. While globally 80% of garment workers are female, the amount of women in management positions is far lower than this. We love that our supplier is a female-led business.
Carbon is one of the key contributors to global warming. Shipping products around the globe - including our beloved activewear –causes significant carbon emission, especially when it's being flown. But that’s not the end of it: more carbon footprint occurs when you wash your clothes after each use. RO/AN commits to offset all the carbon emission used during shipping and during its first year of use. We calculate the carbon emission on the basis of each item being washed 52 times (that’s every week for a year) at 30 degrees, as part of the 5kg load of laundry. We offset our carbon with Pachama. We chose them because of the effectiveness of their approach. Carbon offsetting strategies that plants new trees are not always effective as only about 50% of trees planted survive. Pachama instead focuses its strategy on preserving and maintaining existing forests that contribute to offsetting carbon emissions.
We don't currently have any independent audits of the factories we are using due to the costs involved, but as we grow this is first on our list.
Mailers - We source our shipping packaging from Noissue - we spent a lot of time deciding between compostable and recycled packaging. Finally, we decided on recycled for now (as we understand that not everyone has easy access to composting). Please keep your mailer and re-use it when you next sell something on a resale site or have to send a parcel to a friend. You can also recycle it where soft plastics are accepted.
Stickers - Our paper stickers are FSC certified and printed with Soy Based ink.
Re Usable Pouch - The goods come to you shipped in a reusable pouch made from EVA which is non toxic and biodegradable.

How should I care for my ro/an item?
We recommend washing at 30ºC and with similar colours to extend the life of your product. The products are not suitable for tumble drying. We also only recommend washing when you have enough clothes for a full load to minimize the environmental impact.
To minimise returns please measure yourself to find the perfect size. If you are between sizes we recommend sizing down if you prefer a tighter fit and sizing up if you prefer not to be squeezed in. We have included the measurements of the products in our sizing guide so you can compare these to your existing sportswear.
Just to note our Shine collection is compressive so will feel quite tight for the first few wears.
